In 2004, the Anheuser-Busch Foundation committed $1 million toward the construction of the memorial that stands as a lasting tribute to the victims and their families, and serves as a symbol of our nation's resolve. Construction on the memorial began in June 2006, and it was officially opened to the public on Sept. 11, 2008. The memorial is located just southwest of the Pentagon and is open daily. In celebration of Veterans Day, Budweiser partnered with the USO and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) to host military veterans at NFL games in November 2009. Budweiser, which sponsors 28 of the 32 NFL teams, donated a block of tickets at 11 games to the USO and VFW to distribute to retired military personnel. In addition to the tickets, special messages from Budweiser were broadcast during professional football games thanking veterans for their service. The world-famous Budweiser Clydesdales also appeared in the annual Veterans Day Parade in St. Louis.
In November 2009, Budweiser donated $50,000 to Fisher House Foundation, a non-profit organization that builds homes that provide "a home away from home" for families of patients receiving medical care at major military and VA medical centers. The donation was split between two Fisher House projects – construction of a new Fisher House in St. Louis, at the VA Medical Center at Jefferson Barracks and $25,000 allocated directly to the Fisher Houses in the state of Texas to support families impacted by the Fort Hood tragedy.
